People's DVRs Playme GO, ODDER, LITE

People's video recorders Playme GO, ODDER, LITE

DVRs have established themselves as almost the only way to prove your case on the road. But today, not everyone still has such devices-the rise in the cost of components and the subsequent rise in prices for products of popular brands makes many doubt the need to buy a DVR.

In this article, we will look at three devices of the lower price range from the Korean brand Playme, and we will tell you what real models of 2021 are capable of, which can be bought for quite reasonable money.

Judging by the characteristics of the devices, the manufacturer managed to maintain low prices due to the transition to more affordable processors and optical sensors, as well as the installation of exactly the same optics, which is necessary for shooting a given resolution, without any "show-off" or stock.

Compact Playme GO DVR

The first contributor to the review is a small but functional Playme GO.

This DVR records in Full HD format with a 170 degree viewing angle. The JL 5601 processor provides seamless data recording-that is, without pauses between fragments-and compresses the stream with the H.264 codec at 30 frames per second.

These are certainly not the highest numbers, but do not forget that this is one of the most budgetary Full HD DVRs on the market. The optical system of 6 glass (not plastic!) Lenses makes the picture clear and legible, both in the daytime and in the dark.

The DVR itself is small, the Playme GO bracket is attached to the windshield with a suction cup, and the device is removed by simply sliding it to the side. The power cable connects directly to the Playme GO and not to the bracket.

Despite the rather small size of the device, the buttons on Playme GO are large. Therefore, the device is easy to configure. Setting the parameters is very simple, thanks to the intuitive menu and the minimum of possible settings-in fact, this is a device from the "plug and go" series. No hassle.

Of course, this recorder is far from models with an extended color range and matrix from Sony, but most drivers do not need this.

Shooting in 360 degrees with Playme ODDER

Playme ODDER is a magnetically mountable dual channel DVR that provides the same high quality recording for both the front camera and the secondary camera. Both channels deliver 30 frames per second in Full HD resolution.

This is an interesting feature because most dual-channel recorders reduce the rear camera resolution to at least 720p, and often to a lower value.

The model has the optimal size-a fairly compact body with a 2.45-inch screen and control keys located on the right side. Thus, all Playme ODDER setup is done with one hand. The magnetic bracket of the device is glued to the windshield using strong 3M tape, so the dashcam takes up a minimum of space and does not interfere with the view at all.

The JL5701 processor successfully processes both video streams, storing them in a MOV container with the H.264 codec. In addition to the G-sensor, which detects potential moments of an accident, Playme ODDER can also record a conversation.

An advanced supercapacitor is used in the DVR instead of a battery. And although the supercapacitor excludes the operation of the device without an external power supply, it guarantees reliable operation both in the cold season and in abnormal heat.

The main unit of Playme ODDER is convenient to remove and take home if the situation in the yard is, so to speak, restless. A magnetic mount is used to fix the DVR to the bracket.

Interestingly, the device receives power through the contacts on the site (Power Click technology), which means that when installing and removing the DVR, you do not need to connect or disconnect any wires.

Such comfort elements are especially interesting to see together with two-channel Full HD-shooting in an inexpensive model of a DVR.

Police radar detection with Playme LITE

For those drivers who often drive long distances, it is important to constantly monitor the speed limits and restrictions. Probably, for this case, the Korean company has developed a new hybrid device that combines a Full HD video recorder and a full-fledged radar detector, adapted to detect speed violations.

Playme LITE successfully detects all police radars in use at the moment, and the notification occurs at a comfortable distance, which means that it will definitely be possible to respond to this signal. In addition, the hybrid device has a GPS-module, which determines the location of the car by coordinates and compares it with a regularly updated database of cameras.

Alerts based on GPS data and the triggering of the radar detector itself are indicated by the device in different ways, so that the user can turn off unnecessary signals if necessary. The system also has an integrated IQ Radar function.

As a DVR, Playme LITE meets expectations. Yes, this device has a slightly smaller viewing angle (140 degrees) than the previously reviewed models, but it pleases with the build quality and a convenient menu.

The hybrid is removed from the mount with a simple movement to the left (not a magnet, of course, but quite convenient), and the buttons next to the 2.3-inch screen are clearly pressed.

Playme LITE records videos in Full HD resolution at 30 frames per second. For the operation of the hybrid device, a powerful enough Sigmastar MSC833 × processor is used, which, as in the case of the new video recorders from Playme, packs the video with the H.264 codec.

The performance of the chip is sufficient for both seamless recording and tracking the movement of the car using GPS.
