Review HD and Full HD DVRs
How can you prove to the persistent employee of the State Automobile Inspection that you drove all the same to the "yellow", or defend your case in a conflict situation with another driver, protect yourself from "auto-supply", understand the cause of the accident or in a dispute over violation of traffic rules, debriefing "when teaching driving, or, what is more pleasant, just plunge into pleasant memories and enjoy your own author's video of your fascinating autotravel? In this case, your car DVR will be a reliable assistant or the most impartial witness-eyewitness. And even more so if it is a modern, high-tech device that keeps up to date with the functions, technical data, applicable quality and image standards, such as the latest HD or Full HD car recorders (high-definition 720p and 1080p). How to choose the right "road mate and observer", and what car DVR to buy from the whole variety of offers?
How to choose the right DVR?
When choosing a DVR for a car, buyers often consider options for fully self-contained easy-to-install car DVRs, which are, in fact, a miniature video camera that can independently record video on a memory card.
Among a number of manufacturers offering their car recorders — mini-cameras on the world market, and in particular in Ukraine, there are Chinese, Korean, European companies, as well as Taiwanese.
Taiwan-based company DOD has a stable strong reputation as a leader in the world of digital video technologies and a pioneer of video shooting in the format of the world standard Full HD. DOD products stand alone in the DVR market and deserve special attention in comparison with competitive analogues primarily with their progressive HD and Full HD video standards.
What is the appeal of this advanced standard? HD or Full HD video of high definition and maximum resolution (1920х1080p) significantly exceeds the traditional standard with a video resolution of 640х480, offered in most budget models of other manufacturers. "By eye" the difference can be estimated by examining, for example, the numbers of neighboring cars on the record, which at a resolution of 640x480 are clearly discernable only at a very close distance of several meters. Also on HD and Full HD videos, the overall road (or non-road) environment and the shooting scene look much clearer, without "blurring" and "draining", with the coverage of more objects that are transmitted with a lot of small details. All this makes the resulting image absolutely realistic and "alive."
Buy video recorder (DOD or Gazer, for example) you can choose one or another model, each of which differs mainly in such parameters:
- the video standard is HD or Full HD, or previous;
- video recording resolution — max 1920x1080p, 1280x720p or 640x480;
- Viewing angle of the lens — from 45 to 120 degrees;
- availability of flip-up or built-in LCD display;
- Backlighting — LED, infrared
- availability of own 3.7V battery and capacity from 190 to 4000 mAh
- video recording speed is 30, 60 or 120 frames per second;
- the ability to take photos;
- Audio recording
- Supported SD or microSD memory cards up to 64 GB;
- the presence of a GPS logger;
- The connection interface is USB, HDMI and / or TV.
DVR Functionality
Also, all models have some functionality: cyclic recording, time and date display on the image, video shooting while charging the device, automatic start of the device when the car is turned on, motion detection, stop recording when the memory card is full, economical mode display operation, gravity sensor, moisture resistance of the case, the presence of a remote control and the like.
And, of course, distinguishes all models one more parameter — the cost. As a rule, more expensive models have higher values for these parameters and a wider range of additional functions, such as the DOD F900LHD with LCD display, and are more progressive. Those who want to save on the cost of the DVR will have to save a few on some technical parameters, used advanced technologies and additional functions. Although, of course, there are models that have a more or less optimal ratio of "quality and price" of the car DVR, to which, it seems to us, can be attributed primarily the model Gazer H511 and Gazer H515.
LOD's DOD models are Full HD car DVRs that support the Full HD video image standard — with the highest resolution, high quality and accuracy. Cameras have a different angle of video capture — from 70° to 120° (for example, DOD F900LHD). At first glance, the advantage of a wider lens is obvious. However, it is important to note the possibility of using an additional wide-angle lens (increases the angle to 120°) for DOD F500HD and F900HD lenses, which extends the functionality of the device — use a camcorder without a lens for normal "household" shooting, with a lens for automotive.
Separately, it should be noted that the DVR DOD F900LHD has a swivel lens and swivel flip-up display, which, undoubtedly, adds convenience when setting up, maintaining and viewing the recording. While the DOD F800LHD has a built-in display with the ability to flip the image, and also the model is separated by the presence of IR illumination (effectively operates up to 5 m), which greatly improves the sensitivity of the camera in night mode and low light conditions. The presence of the HDMI interface (along with classic USB 2.0 and TV ports) marks both models as high-tech and provides high-quality and high-speed video audio data, making it easy to connect to home equipment or a widescreen HD TV. They also combine these two models with their current technical characteristics, a set of modern standard features and capabilities, the reproduction of the received video by any video player, and the average price range.
Here it is worth noting the model DOD GS600, which, in addition to a similar modern technical and functional set, there is a GPS logger, a gravity sensor, a remote control, but there is no built-in display. Although, the above functions (including the GPS logger), as well as the built-in display, has DOD GSE550, which appeared on the Ukrainian market in late July 2011.
In addition, the above mentioned models support SD or microSD memory cards: DOD F900LHD and DOD F880LHD — up to 32 GB, DOD GS600 and DOD GSE550 — up to 64 GB. It is important to remember that uninterrupted stable operation of devices is provided only with the use of high-end memory cards — at least 10. Using memory cards of the lower class is fraught with the fact that the video stream will not be "in time" recorded, the registrar will "hang", work with "braking" and "zamylivaniyami."
In addition to DOD, today the use of the HD video standard is also practiced in a number of models of the Taiwanese TM Gazer. In the same conventional category of autoregistrators, the best choice in our opinion is HD video recorders Gazer H511 and Gazer H515. HD image standard, original design, compact size, functionality, up-to-date technical data and an attractive price model — all this, of course, pleases buyers of DVRs Gazer. Customer feedback positively notes both the quality of the package itself, the quality of the device's body and components, the ease of operation, the reliability of the fastening, the simplicity and thoughtfulness of the operation details, which are successfully combined with such parameters as the price of Gazer H511 and Gazer H515.
Important! Beware of substandard imitations of different models! What they are attracting attention is the significantly understated price of car recorders, behind which are: poor-quality assembly, lack of identification marks, russified menu and instructions, lack of service or limited quality assurance.
HD and Full HD video standard introduced in some models of the newest line of 2011 European brand of action cameras Camsports, designed primarily for sports and outdoor activities. Action cameras are slightly different from standard car DVRs. Under the brand name Camsports, you can buy a portable sports DVR that is characterized by exceptional quality, miniaturized dimensions and minimal weight, and adapted to work under rather extreme conditions. And now it's also possible to get HD and Full HD video of the highest quality with a handy and ergonomic camera, even in the most unexpected situations makes Camsports DVRs very attractive action cameras for the most active. For those who are interested in such a proposal, we recommend, for example, to buy a Camsports HD-S 720p or Camsports HD Max Extreme.
No less interesting model of the universal modern video recorder with built-in display, which can be used both in the car and as an action camera for outdoor activities, is the QStar A7 Drive. The key feature of this Full HD DVR is a remote camera. A two-meter cord that connects the camera to the main unit, as well as a set of various fasteners, allows to fix the lens in the most suitable place.
Undoubtedly, to choose and buy a car DVR is not an easy and very individual matter. Someone is looking for avtovideoregistrator, which can be installed in a prominent place — on the front or rear window, on the dashboard of your car. Someone on the contrary needs the most secret DVR. Someone "blood from the nose" needs a GPS logger to register the speed, time, date and track the travel route. There are some who are satisfied with the video resolution of 640x480, and there are those who do not have full HD full HD. Whatever it was, as practice shows and user reviews, the car DVR is a useful, necessary and multifunctional thing. It is possible for a long time not to feel the usefulness of his presence in the car, except the opportunity to make a pleasant recording for himself. And then at a certain not very pleasant moment to evaluate its usefulness, the significance of which will increase, the more high-tech and high-quality the DVR will be and the recordings with it.
