Modern intelligent electric vehicle chargers

Modern motorists are hard to surprise by having more electric cars on the roads. This is due to a number of advantages of these vehicles, the most important of which is the lower cost of funds for “fuel”, that is, electricity.

As you know, in our country, the use of electric vehicles is beneficial due to the low cost of electricity. Therefore, despite the significantly higher cost of buying electric cars, compared to conventional cars, many prefer to buy the first option.

What we pay attention to when choosing a charger for an electric vehicle

An important criterion during the selection and purchase of an electric vehicle is the selection of a charger. To determine the appropriate option in this case must be approached with special care, because the time and intensity of charging the vehicle depends on this device.

There are different standards for the designation of chargers for electric cars. They are distributed by the modes of the European and American type. Since the standards of Europe are considered to be more used, we will consider them in more detail.

  • Mode 1 (Mode 1). These chargers are suitable for use with ordinary sockets, they have a very slow charge of about 24-30 hours. Extremely rarely used.
  • Mode 2 (Mode 2). Chargers of this standard do not differ from the previous one. Their feature is the presence of a cable with a high degree of protection against overheating, which reduces the possibility of a short circuit. Also applies to slow charge chargers.
  • Mode 3 (Mode 3). AC chargers, in this form, distinguish between 2 types of devices-single- and three-phase models. These devices are more productive, they are faster devices for charging electric cars.
  • Mode 4 (Mode 4). DC chargers are more fast charging cars, with the provision of more power when recharging. This standard is used at electric charging stations, in our country you can see them very rarely.
Modern Intelligent Chargers for Electric Vehicles

Among the most used chargers for electric vehicles, there are variants of mode 3, which are also divided into two types, according to the type of charging inputs.

J1772 or Mennekes?

Chargers for electric cars in Mode 3 are divided into two types: Type 1 and Type 2 better known as J1772 and Mennekes. They differ in connectors that connect to the vehicle and, accordingly, functionality.

Type 1 or J1772 is a standard connector, which consists of 5 pins, most used in Asian and American cars. It is often used to recharge from power plants and complexes operating according to the standards of modes 2 and 3. Charging is carried out using a single-phase network with alternating current, with a maximum voltage of 230V, the current can reach up to 32A, and the maximum power is 7.4kW.

Type 2 or Mennekes is a connector with a connector consisting of 7 contacts, designed for use with European electric vehicles, as well as in some adapted cars for this charger. A feature of this device is the ability to use both single-phase and three-phase network. In this case, the limiting voltage will be 400V, the current reaches up to 63A, and the power-up to 43 kW. In most cases, the work is carried out with the following characteristics:

  • single-phase connection-230V, 32A and 7.4kW;
  • three-phase connection-400V, 32A and 22kW.

Chargers with such connectors can be used with power plants and complexes that work with Mode 2 and Mode 3 standards.

One or three phases?

Everyone knows that the three phases are still better, it allows you to charge more quickly than from the network with a single phase. However, to use three-phase devices, you must have a special input to connect them and, accordingly, the proper arrangement of electricity in the house. In this case, you can connect to the network, faster and more efficient charging.

In addition, there are unique models on the market of chargers for electric vehicles that can operate on both three and one phase. To do this, they are equipped with a special adapter, through which it is possible to connect to one or another network. If necessary, it is possible to additionally purchase a similar adapter, for more convenient use of the charger.

Features of the protective functions of chargers for electric cars

Many modern models of chargers are equipped with a number of protective functions that contribute to a faster and more efficient vehicle charge. These include protection from:

  • short circuit;
  • overload;
  • overheating;
  • power outage;
  • regulator that stabilizes input current.

In addition, many models of chargers are equipped with protection of varying degrees, preventing damage or damage to the device from the ingress of solid particles or splashing water on it.

Why are Eveus electric chargers so special?

Among the huge range of chargers for electric cars distinguish between unique devices from the Ukrainian brand Eveus. His models of devices for charging electric cars have a great functionality and capabilities to use.

Among the main features of these devices is to highlight the membership of the third standard mode or Mode 3. Among the presented models, there are devices like ordinary single-phase and three-phase. Some models of three-phase type are presented with the ability to switch to a single-phase charger using a special adapter. Separately worth highlighting:

1. current can be 16 or 32A;

2. working voltage is 230 or 380V;

3. indication of the device operation using LCD/7 segment indicator, RGB LED or multi-color LED, depending on the model;

4. degree of protection-IP44.

In addition, each device is designed with the following security features:

  • overvoltage with a 300V threshold;
  • protective grounding control with the ability to disconnect;
  • the ability to automatically shut off when overloaded;
  • control of the phases in the plug, with the ability to turn off.

Thus, these devices for charging electric vehicles are considered one of the best options for recharging an electric car as quickly and efficiently as possible.

About current

Now, many chargers have a small functionality and can be turned off at a small voltage in the network. Eveus charging data is just a godsend for the Ukrainian consumer. They can be used to connect to the network with any voltage, while the device independently determine the appropriate current strength.

Some models of Eveus rechargers are equipped with an LCD display for better indication of current strength. If the user needs to select a higher current strength, around 32A, then the charger will be able to determine other parameters for more optimal recharging. In the case of not very stable voltage in the network, the device itself will reduce the performance to the required level, charging the electric vehicle with appropriate efficiency.

The display can indicate the required amperage, from 6 to 32A, while in some models up to 16A can increase the mark by one unit, after-by 2. In other devices-only 2 mark increases or decrease. Thus, the driver can choose the optimum current for him for a better intensity of recharging the vehicle or for a longer charge, if there is time for it.

Also here you can set a timer, find out the number of charges, carried out using this device. The presence of these options and other functions will allow you to get the optimal charge of the electric vehicle with minimal time and performance.
