Hi-Fi can also be wireless, which may seem strange in the world of lovers of expensive oxygen-free copper wires on wooden stands. And Hi-Fi can be more than just wireless, but with very pleasant sound that you can enjoy. The DALI Oberon 1 C active speakers demonstrated well.

How does it work?

It is worth noting immediately the fact that DALI Oberon 1 C can be considered a wireless speaker only conditionally. They still need constant power, that is, they cannot get rid of the sockets. Of course, this is exclusively a home option.

If you are faced with installing large speakers at home, then the issue of connecting them to a signal source is acute, especially in large rooms where you have to run a long audio cable, which is sometimes not cheap. This problem was solved in DALI, applying the concept of a hub, to which sound sources are connected, and the speakers are already connected to the hub.

And the sound is already transmitted to the speakers themselves via the radio channel. Thus, you can place the speakers regardless of the length of the cables to the sound source. It is only important that the sockets and the hub are placed relatively close to the sound sources (if they are wired). And, yes-to use speakers from the Oberon wireless series, you will need to purchase one of the two hubs from DALI, without them they will not function.

The appearance of the speakers can be easily described as classic, calm. Scandinavian Hi-Fi as it is. The Danish roots of DALI are visible here. The speakers do not attract attention to themselves and will fit into almost any interior. There are several colors on sale: black, white, brown and a combination of white and light yellow.

For the DALI Oberon 1 C audio system to work, a hub is required that will transmit the signal to the speakers. At the moment, there are two hubs in the DALI model range and now we will talk about its compact version.

The hub is a small and thin plastic box that can be mounted on a wall or behind a TV, if there is one. All ports are located on the rear panel.

And there are really a lot of them: a pair of digital optical inputs, RCA, HDMI and Bluetooth 5.0 with support for Apt-X HD and AAC. That is, the hub allows you to connect both digital sound sources and analog, such as a turntable. But vinyl lovers should take into account the fact that there is no built-in phono stage in the hub, so it is still needed.

On the other side of the connect button is a row of output connectors. Among them are: an output to a subwoofer, a port for connecting an infrared sensor for the remote control, a USB port for servicing and charging external devices and buttons for rebooting the device, as well as switching wireless communication modes.

The connection types can be changed using the remote control, and the top panel will display an indicator of the currently used connection type, as well as the volume level.

Connecting speakers to the hub

It's very simple. Connect the speakers and the hub to power, and press the search buttons on each of the devices. After the hub and the speakers find each other, use a special button to select the arrangement of the speakers relative to each other. This button is located on each of the columns. That's all. Next, you select the sound source with the remote control and enjoy your favorite songs.

Wireless quality

The very first time you turn on the music, there may be a problem with intermittent sound interruptions. The problem is solved by switching the band to 5.8 GHz.

After setting the range, nothing interferes with the wireless connection and the sound is transmitted without delays or other artifacts.

First, let's go over dry numbers. The sound is emitted towards the user by a 5.25-inch woofer made of a material that consists of paper and wood fiber, as well as a high-frequency tweeter with a fabric dome and a diameter of 29 mm. On the rear panel there is a bass reflex hole through which the inside of the tweeter and the DALI inscription on it can be seen. DALI Oberon 1 C are active speakers with a power of 50 W and a frequency range from 39 Hz to 26 kHz. Each speaker contains two amplifiers.

The sound itself is amazing. The sound is very detailed, very soft but powerful bass and wide, noticeable mids. At the same time, the columns are as versatile as possible in terms of genres. They also sound good beats, and reveal a symphony orchestra, operatic parts with strong vocals, and complex rock compositions.

Even at very high volume levels, there was a feeling that the headroom of the DALI Oberon 1 C was noticeably higher than the human ear can handle. At the same time, distortions or other unpleasant moments did not appear.

Conclusion

The DALI Oberon 1 C is an interesting experiment in wireless Hi-FI. Of course, the wireless capabilities are rather arbitrary, but the idea of ​​abandoning wires between the sound source and speakers in this class is quite unusual. Another thing is that there are nuances here. For example, each speaker still needs a power supply, and the power cords themselves are not very long. At the same time, DALI also has the classic Oberon series, which represents the same speakers, but with the usual connection to each other. Either way, you get the same great sound. As a result, we can say that the wireless scheme for connecting speakers to the receiver has a right to exist, but it is definitely not for all music lovers and not for all situations. But in general, in terms of sound quality and emotions from it-there is not a single claim to DALI Oberon 1 C.
