Gas or Cordless Blower?

Gas or battery blower?

Definitely, the "golden age" of the gasoline engine has already experienced its heyday, and now, following the laws of physics, it is declining and is nearing the end. There is nothing unnatural in this process. Indeed, at the beginning of its era, the compact gasoline engine was a great alternative to the inconvenient steam giant.

So it is today-clean and quiet electric motors are replacing the roaring and smoking internal combustion engine (ICE). But not those that are tied to an outlet with a cable, but those that receive their power from the built-in battery.

A dozen years ago, battery technology was either very low-power (like a toy) or very cumbersome. And the batteries were charged earlier much longer than they worked. But today, the opposite is true: batteries have become capacious, hold a charge, do not self-discharge, do not flow in heat and cold.

In addition, the rate of possible battery voltage has increased by tens, or even hundreds of times. That is, the longed-for power-here it is, there. A striking example is the Tesla car, but so far it is available only to money customers, and we advise the rest to pay attention to other equipment, for example, a rechargeable garden vacuum cleaner.

What garden vacuum cleaners are for

Gas or battery blower?

Probably, someone watched for a long time how a broom swept leaves from paths in a garden or park, and then gave birth to the idea of a blower. The essence of her job, like a broomstick, is to sweep away the trash. Only a powerful stream of air is used for this. It goes deliberately, under strong pressure through a special tapered pipe. The flattened end further increases the airflow pressure and velocity. That is, by holding a small unit with a pipe in your hand or hanging on your shoulder, you can quickly and very effectively tidy up a large area. Without bending over, without straining your hands with a broom, without wasting a lot of time and effort.

This is one side of the coin. The other is even more interesting. Many blowers also work like a vacuum cleaner. To do this, you just need to connect the suction pipe and turn on the reverse of the air flow. The air reverses and creates not a jet, but a vacuum (suction). All debris is quickly and neatly drawn in. So that it does not fly out from the opposite end, of course, we connect the dust collector. A pouch, in most cases a tissue pouch. Sometimes (in the most powerful models) a plastic container is attached to collect garbage, and an impeller is installed at the entrance, which crushes any garbage, even large or construction ones.

Types of blower motor power supply

Garden vacuum cleaners are so practical and efficient units that they are used everywhere-at home, in the garden, in the field, on the plot, on the lawn, in city parks, squares, on sites.

Efficiency of task execution, power, productivity, and also, importantly, comfort when working with a garden vacuum cleaner completely depend on which drive it has installed: gasoline or electric. By electric motors, we mean both a motor powered by a stationary network and a battery.

An obvious drawback of the network motor is the tight connection to the network, and, as a result, limited action. That is, where freedom of movement is needed, in a remote area, in a garden or park where there is no outlet, it is not relevant.

But the other two types clearly compete when it comes to choosing a blower, since they are both autonomous and mobile. They can work anywhere-in the field, park and garden.

This is already known to us:

Petrol-powered garden garbage collector;

Its battery-powered counterpart.

I will tell you which one is better and more convenient to use in this article. Let's evaluate the differences between both engines, the advantages, benefits and disadvantages of gasoline and battery-powered technology. After reading the article to the end, you can make an informed choice in favor of this or that device.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Gasoline Engines

Gas or battery blower?

I do not argue that a gasoline garden vacuum cleaner is a priori power and strength. It is durable and reliable, suitable for operation at various temperatures. And, if we compare the motor resource, then the electric motor, in comparison with the gasoline drive, clearly "grazes the rear". The same is true for the time of continuous work. Let the electric motor cool down, take a break. But a gasoline blower can work much longer and not overheat, because its cooling system is forced-by a stream of cold air. Therefore, the cleaning area for gasoline units is always recommended more than for battery ones.

In addition, if the engine power is higher, then there are more interesting functions. For example, the same reverse (reverse), which turns the blower into a vacuum cleaner, is most often installed on gasoline models.

However, do not forget how difficult and troublesome caring for a gasoline engine is. How to monitor the quality of fuel and oil, and in two-stroke engines also correctly mix their proportions. And regular inspection with the obligatory replacement of oil, spark plugs, filters-what a hassle! In general, the hassle is above the roof.

In addition, there are obvious, so to speak, noticeable disadvantages with the naked eye. This is noise and smoke. Two-stroke engines (and they are very often equipped with garden vacuum cleaners) also have an unpleasant smell of burnt oil mixed with gasoline. In general, you can't work indoors, you can get poisoned by the fumes.

So, the advantages of gasoline blowers:

  • Power and performance.
  • Endurance and long service life.
  • Work in large areas without overheating.
  • Functionality and versatility.

In cons:

  • Noise.
  • Exhaust gases.
  • Complex maintenance.
  • Need for oil and gasoline refueling.

Pros and cons of cordless blowers

Now let's look at the technical characteristics of the device for cleaning garbage in the garden, which is powered by a built-in battery. It is as autonomous and mobile as a gasoline one. There are no complaints about this. On the contrary, there is admiration for quiet operation, clean air, absence of smoke and gases. You can work indoors, in warehouses, in storage facilities.

And also, the maintenance of such a motor, compared to a gasoline one, is a complete rest. In a brushed electric motor, at least you need to change the brushes, but in an asynchronous motor (and it is found in battery models much more often) it is even easier, you do not even need to replace carbon brushes. That is, there are no costs. You don't need to spend money on fuel either.

It turns out that the cordless blower is clean, compact, convenient, modern. Profitable in operation. Regarding reproaches for low power, they are partly true. Yes, the power and endurance is lower than that of gasoline, but not in all models. Now, battery models have already appeared on the market, which, according to their characteristics, are not inferior and even more-they overtake gasoline modifications. For example, blowers from the EGO brand are equipped with a 56V multifunctional battery. This is a decent power level that rivals gasoline.

A small minus is the limited time of work. For long-term cleaning of garden and park debris, you need to buy another battery, a spare one. And the price of a good and capacious battery, by the way, noticeably "bites". But here it is worth saying that most manufacturers (the same EGO) produce battery garden equipment with a multifunctional battery that is suitable for equipping all equipment-a lawn mower, a pole saw, a garden vacuum cleaner, etc.

Also, not all battery models have a reverse airflow, that is, they have a blower function, but a vacuum cleaner with a bag does not.

What do we have in the advantages of cordless blowers?

  • Quiet and no exhaust emissions.
  • Compact and lightweight.
  • Easy operation and maintenance of the motor.
  • Saving money, because maintenance of the engine does not require money, and it does not need fuel.
  • Ability to work indoors.

Let's count as cons:

  • High purchase price.
  • To increase the operating time, you need another battery in reserve, which is not cheap. Plus, of course, there is some kind of connection to the network-to charge a spare battery.

Conclusions

Gas or battery blower?

It turns out that the principle of operation is the same for both gasoline and battery models. Only the power supply of their drive is different, which affects performance and capabilities.

If we compare the pros and cons, then there are plenty of them, both in some and in other garden units. Therefore, when choosing, be guided by what exactly you will do with your garden vacuum cleaner, what type of garbage is planned, what working conditions are expected.

For large areas where you need many hours of continuous work, it is better to choose a gasoline device. For construction sites, a gasoline unit is also relevant. Moreover, if the garbage needs to be collected, not just swept away.

A gasoline garden vacuum cleaner is relevant where there is a lot of large plant debris that needs to be disposed of, chopped up and taken out. But when it comes to cleaning the premises, then, definitely, you need a convenient cordless blower. Such units are indispensable in warehouses with food, as well as in granaries for cleaning them.

Regarding the harvesting of grain, it should also be noted such a nuance as blowing off the husk during the harvesting process. In this case, the blower must stand close to the harvester or tractor, and at 30 degrees heat there is a danger of fire of the collected husk. Moreover, you need to constantly mix the fuel and top it up, and the necessary devices may not be at hand. It is much safer and more reliable if the vacuum blower is powered by a battery.

Rechargeable ducks are also convenient for household chores: sweep the paths in the yard, remove garbage in the garden. If the site is medium in size, then you can go to the farthest end of the site, and the network cable will not bother you. The work will be quiet and pleasant. In addition, for household work, one battery charge is enough for several cleanings. And there is no need to fiddle with a troublesome gasoline engine, perhaps there are lovers of this business, but most often the owners do not know how to handle it. The battery is much easier.

I also recommend purchasing battery models for municipal services. By the way, they have long turned their attention to just such blowers. After all, it is much easier and easier to clean the sidewalks, the area near the supermarket, the adjacent territory, the park or square, using a low-noise and environmentally friendly unit. Which, moreover, will save money spent on fuel and maintenance on gasoline models.
