Which automatic transmission is more economical
Probably one of the most popular questions that arises when buying a new car-which gearbox to choose: automatic or mechanic. Here the main parameters of choice is comfort and safety. And of course, it is important to take into account the cost of maintenance, because drivers are often afraid to give preference to the machine because of fears of too much fuel consumption.
Important Recommendations
When choosing a gearbox, pay attention to the following:
- A torque converter instead of a clutch is the most comfortable option for an automatic model. One of the drawbacks is the increased fuel consumption due to the loss in the torque converter itself. Modern models are produced taking into account such features, equipping the gearbox with new technologies, minimizing such losses.
- Variator-two shaft with a belt and a pulley in the middle. This is no less practical option, but you will need to get used to the new sensations, because the motor in this case may “hang”, but everything justifies the economical consumption of gasoline.
- Robotized gearboxes are very similar in design to mechanical models, but are distinguished by the presence of an actuator that shifts gears on its own. This car has its own characteristics: there are significant pauses between gearshifts. This is due to the automation of work: the actuator must first turn off one gear and then turn on another.
- Robotic Gearbox with two clutches: instead of one, you have two gearboxes. One with even, the second with odd gears. They have a faster response and speed switch.
Each automatic transmission has advantages and disadvantages. However, with the development of new technologies and the improvement of old, obvious problems are already being solved, creating a maximum of comfortable conditions for drivers. In modern conditions, the most comfortable to operate and economical is a “robot” with two clutches, but, again, everything is individual.
