How to increase the density of the electrolyte in the battery yourself?
Almost all car owners do not pay attention to the battery until the first problems. It is our irresponsibility that quickly brings the moments of breakdowns when the car already simply refuses to start. The most common cause is a dead battery.
By the way, even a new battery can interfere with your trip. There is a share of the probability to buy a not quite high-quality device. What is meant by this? Most often: not fully charged battery or electrolyte deficiency. Such nuances do not check at the time of shopping.
Basic Ways
As soon as the battery refuses to work, we put it on charge. But what we see: the charging cycle has passed, and the battery is still dead. There is a new problem-the battery just does not hold a charge. Here you need to find out the reasons why this is happening.
Most often this happens with batteries that have been planted at 0. Here, a new task appears-to check how much the battery is low. First, check the electrolyte density using a special device: an acid meter.
We do it like this:
- Set the acid meter in any battery bank.
- The scale on the hydrometer will show the density of the electrolyte.
- Compare the values obtained with the tabular density parameters.
If you live in a region with a harsh climate, then the value will be approximately 1.25 kg/liter. Here keep in mind that the difference in density between the two banks should not be greater than 0.01.
How to raise the density?
The way to solve this problem depends on what values you get.
Density 1.18-1.20 kg/liter
With a pear, we pump out the old electrolyte: as much as possible. Fill the new one in half of the volume that you pumped out. Conventionally, for example: pumped 1 kg., Pour 0.5 kg. Here we need to achieve the norm of the density of the electrolyte, and the rest is topped up with distilled water.
Density less than 1.18 kg/liter
In this case, you need to use battery acid. We do everything the same way as in the first case, but it is likely that the procedure will have to be repeated. Your main task remains the same-to get the value of the norm.
Density is very low
Unfortunately, there will have to change the electrolyte completely to save the battery. With the help of a pear, you will need to pump out the old electrolyte as much as possible, and close the jars with plugs. And further adhere to this plan:
- After tightening the plugs, put the battery on its side. Take a drill 3 mm. or 3.5 mm. and make one hole at the bottom of the jar. So, we can drain the electrolyte completely.
- Flush all jars with distilled water. Holes closed with acid-resistant plastic. So, we did everything necessary to prepare the tank for a new electrolyte.
- Prepare the electrolyte yourself. Take distilled water and pour battery acid into it. Please note that the reverse order is not allowed, that is, water can not be poured into the acid. Remember to wear rubber gloves.
As a result, you should get the necessary electrolyte values for your region. If for some reason it was not possible to increase the density of the electrolyte, you will have to choose a new battery. you can buy a battery with delivery in Ukraine to Kharkov, Kiev, Odessa at 130.com.ua.
