Tips for motorists: how to drive long distances economically and safely

Summer is for many Ukrainians long-distance travel to resorts. For a good example, let's take Kiev: the shortest distance from this city to the nearest sea is 600 km. Some drivers decide to travel longer and leave the country, going to Bulgaria or Greece.

Of course, for those who often travels over 300 km. such distances do not seem so difficult: you just need to take a ride longer. But for those who hardly go beyond their city and those who are used to standing in long traffic jams than gaining momentum on a free highway, a trip to rest will be a real adventure for them.

Tips for motorists: how to travel long distances economically and safely

A good driver is hearty

Our body is adapted to sleep at night and aktivnichat day. Not everyone accepted this as a fact and tries to change it: on the last working day, go on a late evening rest and only on the next day to arrive at the destination-so as not to lose a single day in vain. But what do we get as a result? Accidents caused by a sleepy and inattentive driver in such a period in most cases.

It makes no sense to risk, because you can leave Kiev at 4 am, before it is well rested, and come to rest during the day or evening. The result: no one was hurt, everyone is alive and well, the driver is comfortable driving, not falling asleep at the same time.

Go quietly-you will be faster

Another problem for drivers is the desire to get to their destination as quickly as possible. They have obvious signs of aggressive driving style: sharp acceleration and braking, high speed, dangerous overtaking of cars. Yes, maybe in this situation you will arrive a couple of hours earlier, but can this really justify possible accidents with a bad outcome?

After all, you win quite a bit, or even nothing at all: you need to take into account checkpoints, crossings, traffic lights, intersections and possible traffic jams. Therefore, there is no sense in a hurry.

Most of the road to the sea in our country passes through the steppe zone, which is characterized by narrow roads and many turns. Movement in such zones requires a lot of attention. Due to the fact that the roads are so narrow, you have to overtake other transport. We recommend doing this in the following way: decide in advance, after which oncoming car you will start it, overtake it in one go. No need to take risks, because accidents under such conditions occur most often.

Save on fuel and fines

This year, new bills came into force, suggesting some changes in the speed limit. All of them led to the emergence of chaos among drivers, because it is difficult to understand how fast it is now to drive fast and without breaking the new rules.

There was one significant change-a new sign appeared, which indicates the beginning of construction and implies a reduction in speed to 60 km/h. This is in theory, but in practice no changes have occurred. Fines are imposed only if the speed is exceeded by more than 20 km/h from the established one.

Most often, inspectors with radar lurk drivers where there is an opportunity to exceed the speed: on 4-8-lane roads. For example, this is the Kiev-Odessa highway. In addition, the signal of oncoming drivers that the traffic police are ahead is not very effective, because employees use the new Harpoon devices. They record information about speeding and can be located at a distance of 1.5 km. from the post of inspector. Bottom line: you can be stopped even 15 minutes after coming.

Radar Detectors

Of course, it’s cheaper and safer not to break at all. If you often travel long distances, we recommend to buy a radar detector. This is a special device that receives a signal and notifies the driver that within its functionality there are “Harpoon” type signals. So, you will learn in advance that you need to slow down. They are completely safe and legal, because they do not drown out the signal, but only warn about its presence. Eco Drive

Continuous driving on the highway is a way to check the profitability of your car. For this:

  • smoothly accelerate to 110 km/h.
  • let the gas pedal until the speedometer needle drops to 100 km/h;
  • Keep the speed level.

This is one way to slow down. In the mountains, there is also an opportunity to save: on the slopes, do not turn off the 4-5th gear, and on the climbs, on the contrary, turn on the downshift. So, you will accelerate faster and feel better cars.

Rest-30 min. at 3 o'clock

If this is a long trip, then do not forget about the rest. The best option: every 3 hours to stop for half an hour. If you feel that you are already falling asleep, it is better to stop and take a nap for 20-30 minutes. The desire to drive faster, ignoring the rest, may turn out to be not a very good outcome for you.

Gasoline-at network gas stations

There is a lot of bad fuel on the tracks, because in such zones the demand for it is very large, and no one will demand to return the money: after all, very few people agree to return on purpose to quarrel. In addition, it is impossible to prove that the fuel was bad at a particular gas station. Do not take risks and choose gasoline at the gas stations of one network.
