How to choose a tent
In order for outdoor recreation with an overnight stay to bring maximum comfort, you should approach the choice of a tent more responsibly. There is a wide range of tents that vary in performance and cost. In our article, we will help you figure out what to look for when buying a tent.
Types of frame fastening
According to the method of fastening the frame, tents are of two types - with an external location and an internal one. In the former, the frame is located outside the awning, and the tent is suspended from the awning. This structure folds down quickly, which is especially important in case of bad weather conditions. You cannot do without an awning in such tents and should be installed first of all.
In the second type of fastening, the tent is suspended from the frame, which is located under the awning. To do this, first of all, you need to put up a tent, and then pull the awning over the frame. In hot weather, the awning can be omitted.
An important component is the arches, on which the stability of the tent depends. Lightweight, durable and not subject to deformation — aluminum. A cheaper option is fiberglass arcs. It is a fiberglass material. Such arcs are 1.5 times heavier than aluminum ones and can break at temperature extremes.
Single layer or double layer?
Tents without awning are called single layer. The production uses waterproof material. In hot weather, moisture can accumulate on the walls and it will be stuffy to sleep. Therefore, it is worth choosing from materials that let steam through. These tents are lighter and easier to set up.
Two-layer tents are made of vapor-proof material and come complete with a waterproof awning. This design is more resistant to rain. The space between the tent and the awning can be used for things. They are distinguished by their heavy weight and difficult installation.
Water resistance index
Of course, I would like to buy a tent in which you can hide from the rain and not get wet. Therefore, check the water resistance indicator on the product, which is measured in mm of water column. For tents with low water resistance, this figure does not exceed 2000 mm. Tents with medium water resistance are available from 2000 to 3000 mm. The most waterproof products are those with an indicator above 3000 mm. You should also pay attention to the gluing of the seams. They must be glued with a special thermal tape.
Material selection
The fabrics used in the production of tents differ in chemical composition (polyamide and polyester), in the type of weaving (Tafetta, Oxford, Rip-stop) and in the method of fabric processing (polyurethane coating, silicone impregnation).
Polyamide fabrics include polyamide, nylon, nylon, etc. The advantages are low weight, strength, abrasion resistance. Disadvantages - when exposed to ultraviolet rays, they lose strength over time and can stretch when wet.
Polyester fabrics consist of polyester, lavsan, etc. They are resistant to sunlight, do not stretch when wet, so their price is higher.
Camping tent
These tents are heavy and spacious, making them suitable for families. They are a tall structure with windows and a vestibule. These tents take time to set up and take longer to warm up due to their large volume.
Trekking tent
Suitable for hiking on hiking trails, as it is lightweight and has a spacious volume. The production uses short-lived and not durable materials. These tents are relatively inexpensive and easy to transport.
Mountain tourism tents (assault)
They withstand temperature extremes, retain heat well, therefore they are suitable for winter hiking in the mountains. Special waterproof fabrics with impregnation are used. These tents are compact and lightweight.
Beach tents
Beach tents will help you to comfortably spend time on the beach, shelter from the sun and wind. They are lightweight, do not heat up much and are not expensive in price. However, these tents lack waterproof protection.
