How to choose a lamp in the head optics
9 out of 10 car owners will say that they would improve the headlamp light in their car. As you can see, the problem is really relevant. Our country is located far from the tropical zone and there are not uncommon phenomena such as frost, prolonged autumn or spring. In conditions of different weather and temperature, drivers often have to drive in poor light conditions of the road.
A developed network of artificial lighting is only in large cities, while townships should be content with only its minimum number. And do not forget about the technical condition of the roads, which leaves much to be desired.
Given all these factors, it becomes clear that the choice of head optics is not a way to stand out among other motorists, but a condition of security.
What type of bulbs to choose?
Today, there are 3 main types of lamps: halogen, xenon and LEDs. Crucial are the factory capabilities of cars. If your car was originally equipped with xenon, then you should not rush to change it to LED or halogen lamps. Most likely, you only worsen the state of optics.
You need to back down from the factory settings only if there is not enough light to safely control your local conditions.
Halogen lamps are cheap, have a simple design, so they are popular. They are used mainly in low-cost models of cars or in lower trim levels of models with a higher class.
But then we see the downside of saving-low efficiency. Today, halogens cannot provide the level of illumination that modern analogs offer us.
And even their stated low price today is questioned. After all, halogen lamps fail very quickly due to high temperatures and constant shaking. Sometimes the service life does not exceed even 4 months of use.
Halogen lamps are recommended for use only in such cases:
- Fog-for wide and low light road. LEDs will cope with this task worse, but they can be used as DRLs.
- High Beam-the warm shade of such lamps manifests itself well in the rain, snow.
- Extra lighting in jeeps.
Xenon lamps are much more efficient than halogen lamps in all weather conditions and light conditions. In addition, they serve longer and therefore more economical. But there is one feature-you can install them only in headlights of the corresponding type.
Xenon differs in the shape of the light beam, which is formed by the surface of the reflector or lens shutter. And xenon with a halogen “daw”, however, will still dazzle oncoming drivers.
Therefore, the correct installation of xenon lamps is costly. Even with the purchase of conventional, non-branded mechanisms, you will need: lamps with ignition units, lenses, headlight washers, engraving and gluing. And you cannot reject one of the elements.
And even a washer is a really useful thing. Xenon lamps to fully cope with their tasks only in its pure form. If they are dirty, then start blinding oncoming drivers.
Xenon is recommended for use in such cases:
- Low beam. And despite the high price, in the future it will be much more convenient than the LEDs.
- In reversing light. Both xenon and bright LEDs are suitable here.
LED lamps are also not an easy design, but there are much fewer nuances here than in xenon. There are 2 types of such illumination: in the form of sets of diodes or in the form of special devices for head optics.
LED lamps for head optics on the principle of action are similar to halogen and xenon. They are distinguished by the presence of its own radiator, which in some cases is still equipped with a cooling fan.
The price they do not belong to the budget, but still lower than that of xenon. And one more advantage of LEDs-they can work quite well for themselves in headlights, originally intended for halogen-glasses.
Diodes are also very economical-they need a lot less electricity than xenon. But on the other hand, they do not have such a long service life, the standard is 1 year.
LED lamps are recommended in such cases:
- low beam: not more efficient xenon, but easier to install;
- in the high beam headlights, taking into account the selection of the desired color temperature;
- in side lights;
- in the fog.
What you need to know when buying lamps
Number of bulbs included
Halogens can be changed one by one, there will be no violations in the design. But xenon or LEDs only a couple. Because the characteristics of new and old lamps are very different and the headlights may shine differently.
Base
It's all very simple. What is the base instruction provided, such a lamp and need to buy. For example, if a car has the H7 parameter, then you can’t install the H4 structure, because it will not fit in size and fastening.
Color Temperature
The standard value of halogen lamps is 3000K. It is within these limits that one must choose: higher values will not provide you with huge benefits. And do not forget that the main advantage of such lighting is a warm color that shows itself well on wet asphalt, fog, snow.
LED lamps offer a color temperature in the range of 3700K-5000K. Keep in mind that for the fog and the high beam is still better to choose warm colors.
In xenon lamps, everything is in the extremes: here you will also find unnaturally yellow 3000K and poisonous violet with 13000K.
Really high quality light can be obtained with a value in the range of 4100-6000K.
Power
You need to choose a lamp with a power that meets factory specifications. Your headlights will be intact, and your wallet will be fuller.
