♦ Charging cable and adapters

It is always important for electric vehicle owners to be able to charge their vehicle quickly and safely. A regular household outlet can be unsafe, and the connectors at a public electric charging station are not always compatible with an electric car's connector. Electric vehicle charging cables and adapters can help solve these problems by providing compatibility and convenience.

Carrying cables and adapters in the trunk allows you to always have them on hand when you need them.

Charging cable and adapter: key accessories for your electric car

Charging cable and adapter (adapter) are important accessories for recharging the car, which solve several tasks at once:

  • - The cable allows you to recharge your car at any public electric charging station, even if you don't have the necessary equipment with a suitable plug. It also allows you to connect to an ordinary power outlet.
  • - The electric car charging cable allows you to connect to the station at a considerable distance, thanks to a cable length of 3 to 20 meters. This is especially useful in situations where the nearest stations are far away.
  • - Adapters provide connection to vehicles with different types of connectors, including atypical for Ukraine models, such as Chinese electric cars with GB/T port.
  • - The electric vehicle charging adapter allows electric vehicle owners to travel freely across the EU with access to a wide network of recharging points. This increases mobility and makes long journeys comfortable and convenient.

If you have the necessary cable and adapters in your arsenal, you can avoid unnecessary worries and problems on the road. Instead of looking for stations with the appropriate plugs, you will be able to charge your car in any convenient place.

Variety of connectors: the main types

There are usually two connectors on an electric car charging cable adapter, each of which plays a different role in providing a connection between the electric car and the charging station. It is important to have different types of adapters in the vehicle for compatibility with different connectors.

  • Connector Type 1 (J1772): provides a single-phase AC connection with 230V and up to 32A of current. Widespread on Asian and American electric vehicles, providing charging speeds of up to 7kW, although for some Audi and Tesla models it can be as high as 9kW and 12kW respectively.
  • Connector Type 2: supports both three-phase and single-phase AC connections with a voltage of 400V and current up to 32A. It is widely used on German electric vehicles for sale in Europe, providing charging speeds of up to 22 kW on three phases and up to 7 kW on a single phase.
  • GBT connector: also provides both three-phase and single-phase connections with voltage and current parameters similar to the Type 2 connector. It is installed on Chinese electric vehicles and provides charging speeds of up to 22 kW with three phases and up to 7 kW with one phase.
  • CCS Combo Connector: supports both DC and AC with voltages from 200 to 500 V and currents up to 200A. It features contacts that allow faster charging of the electric vehicle by directly supplying current to the battery, bypassing the on-board unit. CCS Combo adapters are typically rated up to 50kW, making them one of the fastest charging options available.

How to choose a charging cable for your electric vehicle

Selecting the right charging cable is a key step to ensure that charging your electric vehicle at home or on the road is seamless and as efficient as possible.

It is important to consider several parameters when making your choice:

  • - Power: Estimate the power required, taking into account other power consumers as well. The higher the power, the faster the charging, but you need to keep wear and tear in mind. For example, for connection to a station with a current of 3.7 kW, a 3x2.5 cable is suitable.
  • - Cross-section: Choose the cross-section depending on the power and the length of the cable. The farther away the station is located, the larger the cross-section should be.
  • - Material: Preference should be given to copper cable for better conductivity parameters.
  • - Sheath: Pay attention to the characteristics of the cable insulation, including its resistance to oil, water, mechanical damage and corrosion. Voltage protection will not be superfluous.
  • - Construction: It is good if the cable has a multilayer jacket, including braid, filling, protective shield, armor and outer polymer coating.
